New Class Starting June 29, 2026!

Denny Sissom will be teaching a new class for the Nashville School of Preaching based on his book, The Bridge to the New Testament: A Comprehensive Guide to the Forgotten Years of the Inter-Testament Period. The class is entitled "Revealing the New Testament through the History, Politics, and Customs of the Inter-Testament Period." It will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM, June 29-July 16. There is no fee to attend. To sign up, simply send an email to [email protected] and express your wish to attend. It will be held online via Zoom. A few weeks before it starts, we will send you information on how to access the class. All classes will be recorded and provided to students.

A study of ancient calendars and time

Archaeology and geography of the times

An overview of Old Testament history

The Greek Empire (starring Alexander the Great)

The Ptolemaic Empire (starring Cleopatra)

The Seleucid Empire (starring Antiochus IV Epiphanes)

The Maccabean dynasty (starring Judas Maccabeus)

The Hasmonean dynasty (starring several people who were responsible for the rise of the Pharisees and Sadducees)

The Herodian dynasty (starring Herod the Great, formerly known as Herod the So-So)

The prefects, procurators, legates, and governors of Rome over Judaea (starring Pontius Pilate)

The Roman conquest of Jerusalem (starring Vespasian and Titus)

Roman history and government (starring Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus, and a bunch of others)

Jewish politics (the beginnings of the Pharisees, Sadducees, and others)

Jewish festivals and holidays (including all the feasts of the Bible)

The three Jewish Temples and three Temple Mounts

How to visit Jerusalem today and see what Jesus saw

The writings of the period (starring the Apocrypha)

Money of the period (really, a widow's mite?)

Life in ancient times

Bonus: The last week of Jesus (was He crucified on Thursday?)

As you can see, this will be a fast-paced, information-packed presentation filled with the keys to understanding the background of New Testament times. I have spent much of my life studying and documenting this period of history. Let me share with you what I've learned!
